New name for Quarry Hills Parkland
We’re proud to share that bunjil nganga Parkland (formerly Quarry Hills), has been officially approved by Geographic Naming Victoria and adopted by the City of Whittlesea.
The new name bunjil nganga, meaning ‘eagle view’, was proposed from an Aboriginal Cultural Values Study delivered in partnership with the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation and was supported in community consultation earlier last year.
The new name honours the cultural connection of the Woi-wurrung people and celebrates their enduring custodianship of this land. It also deepens the connection between our community and the parkland’s rich heritage and natural beauty.
Managed through traditional Caring for Country practices, the parkland protects important ecological and cultural values. It's a perfect spot for hiking, birdwatching, cycling and exploring the rich geological history and diverse wildlife.
